"I led the Wellington investment in eWise because I recognized that eWise offered a break-through alternative payment method: cheaper, faster, more secure and simpler than anything else I had seen; and bank friendly. After years in the payments industry, the opportunity to lead this innovative company and its great team was simply too much to pass over."

A safe and simple way to pay online

eWise is a global payments and online financial management solutions provider with offices in the US, the UK, Australia, and China. The company supports some of the world’s top financial institutions, including U.S. Bank, HSBC, Citi, Westpac, and Ping An. With Secure Vault Payments in the U.S. and eWise payo in the UK, eWise aims to transform the payment landscape entirely. This solution provides consumers with a streamlined and secure way to pay online, straight from a merchant’s site, using their existing bank account – without a credit or debit card.

eWise targets e-commerce markets as well as those which still rely heavily on cash and checks. Merchants benefit from greater user experience, which increases conversion rates; bank-driven user authentication, which reduces fraud risks; the bank-provided good funds guarantee; and per transaction costs which are typically lower than traditional and alternative payment methods.

In addition, the company is also targeting the physical point-of-sale, with the introduction of its innovative mobile payment solution. The clear market validation achieved by similar solutions in the Netherlands and Germany, the strong value proposition to the US and UK markets, and the excellent management team convinced Wellington Partners to lead a $14 million financing round in June 2011.
