immatics is developing peptide-based therapeutic cancer vaccines, i.e. drugs that help to activate the immune system of the patient to successfully fight cancer diseases. The company's goal is to create highly specific and highly tolerable therapeutics against various cancers on the basis of its proprietary drug discovery technology. Formed in the year 2000 as a spin-off from the Institute of Immunology at the University of Tuebingen, immatics is in clinical Phase 2 trials for its product candidate IMA901 for combating renal cancer, and has three further product candidates for the treatment of colorectal, lung and gastric cancer in preclinical development. In January 2008, the company opened an office in Martinsried near Munich, one of the largest biotech clusters in Europe.
