Company
Details
Entry Date: November 2002
Exit Date: May 2005
Type: Acquired by Carl Zeiss AG
NaWoTec was founded in 1999 as a spin-off from the Deutsche Telekom Research Institute. NaWoTec developed technology that allows bottom-up nanostructuring, manipulating individual molecules into 3-dimensional nanostructures using electron-beam technology. Although the technology is a platform technology that allows a wide spectrum of applications (in electronics, nano-analytics, bio-nano physics and microoptics), the company focused on the relatively narrow semiconductor mask repair market for its market entry strategy. After securing Intel as a beta customer shortly after the initial funding from Wellington in 2003, NaWoTec completed the technology and was well under way in signing up its first commercial customers when its partner Carl Zeiss acquired the company in May 2005. Today, Nawotec is the Semiconductor Metrology Systems division of Carl Zeiss.
