Founded in 2005, Qype is today Europe’s premier city guide network with more than 5 million unique visitors per month and a presence in six countries already. The Hamburg-based company provides a communication platform, www.qype.com, that allows users to discover places, businesses and services in their local area and share opinions.
The enormous growth in user and contributor numbers and the early revenue traction in the local advertising market were key factors for Wellington Partners to led a second financing round of €8.0 million in September 2008. The new capital will go towards supporting user growth, extending the leading position in Europe and scaling the business model.
