| Helping the human immune system actively fight cancer |
immatics is an international leader in the development of peptide-based therapeutic cancer vaccines. The company's unique technology platform allows for the rapid identification of thousands of tumor-associated peptides directly from primary human tumor tissue.
immatics’ most advanced product IMA901 for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) was brought from start of drug discovery to successful completion of a phase II proof of concept trial within less than 6 years. In 2011, the company started a pivotal phase III trial with the goal of achieving regulatory approval both in Europe and the US.
The company has meanwhile also finished recruitment of metastatic colorectal cancer patients into a phase II study with IMA910, the second most advanced product candidate. The company has several further products at earlier stages of preclinical development.
immatics was established in 2000 as a spin-out from the Institute of Immunology at the University of Tuebingen. Wellington was the lead investor in the company's first financing round in 2004 and invested again in 2007 and 2010, in two of Germany’s largest biotech funding rounds with volumes of EUR 40 million and EUR 54 million.
immatic’s target-specific therapeutic cancer vaccines can basically be developed in a majority of all cancer indications. Over 70 employees are currently working to rapidly transition the results from drug discovery and pre-clinical development to clinical programs.
Wellington’s Thomas Widmann, Erich Schlick and Rainer Strohmenger have helped immatics to establish a highly professional and efficient organisation focusing on rapid product development, differentiating immatics from many biotech companies that mainly focus on research.
