About Alexandre
Serial entrepreneur and iPIN/Valista co-founder Alexandre Gonthier joined Wellington Partners as a Venture Partner in November 2009, supporting the Digital media portfolio with his vast experience in founding and growing technology companies on both sides of the Atlantic. Since 2004, the London-based entrepreneur has also been acting as a business angel and fund-raising advisor to start-ups. In this role, he has contributed to the development of companies like online private sales club BuyVIP, mobile ad platform ScreenTonic (now a part of Microsoft), mobile messaging vendor Mobile 365 (now a part of Sybase), and WiFi specialist Ruckus Wireless.
In November 2011, Wellington portfolio company eWise, an online and mobile payments solution provider, appointed him as the new CEO. Alexandre has a long track record in this sector as founder and executive of several successful companies in the online and mobile payment sector. From 2008 to 2009, Alexandre was CTO of mobile payment platform Paymo, which was merged in the summer of 2009 into Boku, backed by Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures and Khosla Ventures. Prior to that, Alexandre co-founded iPIN in San Francisco in 1997, where he served as CTO and then CEO. This Accel Partners and Sutter Hill Ventures-backed company grew to become the leading internet and mobile payment software platform processing millions of payment transactions every day for global telecom operators and banks. In 2003, iPIN merged with Network 365 to form Valista, now part of Aepona.
